Tim Baxter seems to have everything organized and planned to a ‘T’…except his car. The chaos of the campaign has turned it into a Swiss Army knife of sorts that can haul signs, store extra clothes, and function as a lunchroom on the go. It also serves as the backdrop for a tour of Seabrook and Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, the neighboring towns he grew up in and where he ran for State Representative. He points out his childhood home and neighborhood icons, and how they led him to public office.
Baxter’s interest in politics is nothing new, and after graduating from George Washington University in Washington, DC, he knew exactly what he wanted to do - run for office. But as we talked, it became clear that there were other factors that motivated him besides simple ambition. Seeing the unresponsiveness of politicians when his developmentally-challenged brother’s group home was threatened was one of the tipping points.
Our drive with Baxter sets the stage for the next phase of our series - in the coming weeks we’ll be on the campaign trail with him, Julie Emerson, Pablo Hurtado, and Luke Negron.
